About The Mirror

Greetings to the Known World

Well, this will be interesting.  Welcome to my new blog.  My name is Miriel Crawford (some times).  This blog journey will be about my adventures in recreating ancient, medieval and Renaissance jewelry.

I’ve been working with jewelry in some form or other for at least 10 years; I started with a simple dream catcher earring kit that I’d purchased at Michael’s.  Soon after, I was addicted to beads, in all forms. :)

I got interested in medieval and ancient jewelry while ‘in search’ of something to do while taking part of activities in the Society for Creative Anachronism*.

So, here we are.  Expect irregular updates on the things I’m researching.  Currently, bead trade routes.  Also, I have a more than passing interest in the uses of gems in medicine, and in magic (talismans, and amulets).  It’s likely I will post here my research as I make notes and suppositions.  I also need to create a bibliography of the books I’ve been reading.

*=while I’m a member of the SCA, nothing in this blog is in any way reflective of current or past policies or activities in any group.  My blog is purely the product of my own work, and thus, is wholly mine.   My affiliation with the SCA stops at the keyboard for this blog.
